On train met a lady from Buffalo (or Erie) who was enroute to New O - to join her husband who was stopping at Hotel Lafayette. Not knowing anything about the cities hostleries decided to try Hotel Lafayette too. Found it very nice and quiet and close to things. Wed. a.m. we took a sightseeing bus, in which we rode to many places of interest, one of the first being Jackson Park around which clusters some of the best historical spots - for instance the famous cabildo - shown in the pitcure. Old St Louis Cathedral stands at the immediate right of the Cabildo. In the afternoon we walked thru the shopping dist. Chas, Mrs Sedgwick and I, while mother rested in Hotel. Delightful up there; over night, then on to Beaumont by mt ridge route From there to San Jacincto via Gorgonio Pass (Jack Rabbit) Dinner in old Inn at S. Jacincto - then on to Hermit, in Perris Valley. Splendid trip Apr 28 Janet took me to Hermit to see Ramona Pagaent. When this photo was taken we were being ferried down and across the Great Father of Waters, = the Mississippi River. The long train was divided into three ports; all in one ferry boat. Just as the sun was settling we landed in Beaumont, Texas and about midnight we went thru San Antonio I never supposed I could be persuaded to go straight thru old San Antonio. I saw some palm trees, and an arched gateway, bearing the word - Welcome - (the Gateway - not the trees. We were going down - down - down, toward Superior, thru a tunnel, winding and twisting along as though on as cork-srew At this point then was a fort of immense rock gateway - but for some reason the camera was not adjusted property to take it in.
