Big Walnut High School Yearbook. 1955: The Flame (p. 56)
Description
[corresponds to unnumbered page 56 of Big Walnut High School Yearbook. 1955: The Flame]
SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY
The date is May 1975 and the Big Walnut High School, class of 1955 is long-gone but not forgotten.
We find ourselves overlooking the three towns of Sunbury, Harlem, and Galena which have changed
considerably in the past 20 years. Let's see how much the people have changed.
ROSALIE PLUMMER, who is still in the plumbing business with her father, lives just across the street
from PAUL TOWNSEND,who has been the minister in Sunbury for 15 years. His high school sweetheart
SUZIE BERGANDINE is still slinging cokes and sundaes in the local drugstore.
ROBERT "Opal" RIGNEY recently lost everything he owned in an all night poker game, while BOB
DURRETT is still slick at the game of chance. PAUL MOORE had a winning streak the other night
and now there seems to be a contest between the three to see who can win the most.
MAURICE MEEKER is a stock car driver for the local track. He has a little trouble with Deputy Marshall
JIM LINCOLN about the speed to use on the highway.
TRUDA ROSS, who drives her father's stationwagon around seems to be a friend to everyone except MARY
JANE EDWARDS. They both have a crush on PAUL JACKSON,one of the quietest boys we know. But Paul
seems to have a crush on WANDA YERIAN who has helped our hero many times. Wanda is a maid at the
home of Mrs. and Mr. CARROLL MEADOWS at this time. Carroll has however, worked himself down to the
chief of the Sanitation Department.
Mrs. Carroll Meadows loves to g o to the movies to watch her favorite movie actor, STEVE WILSON as
a rough and tough detective.
A famous nite-club singer is CAROL MALLERNEE, who never married, because says Carol: I can't stand
men. Her accompanist at the piano is Mr. LARRY "Liberace" ANDERSON.
JUNIOR COUNTS is now a great pool-shark and gets himself into a lot of trouble like the time BOB BEE
snapped his picture in the pool hall and plastered it on the front page of the citizen.
JAMES BAKER is distinguished now by being the father of the largest family in town. MARTHA JONES
is the champion race horse driver and lives alone except for CAROL HIGGINS who rooms with her. Carol
is waiting for her husband to return from the service.
In the sports field we find FRED "Cripple 'em KAHLER, all American half-back and CHARLES SHIPMAN
who used to be a wrestler but had to give it up. He had a most severe hangnail which used to bother him
all the time. One of their most sincere fans is GLENNA RUTH GOODYEAR part owner in the Goodyear
Rubber Company.
In the musical profession we find quite a few of our friends. WILLMA BELL sings bass, and DAVE POPPLER
soprano, while EUGENE WAMPLER sings baritone in a well known trio. TOM WOOD wishes he were one of
them but likes his job at the Brewery better. RONNIE BARNHARD and SHELDON STAUCH form an exciting
combination on musical glasses.
A top performer on television is LEE ELLEN MILLER, famous for her dance of the seven veils. PAT RODDY
has a used car stand where he is making quite a haul for himself. JUANITA LONGSHORE works at an all night
restaurant but had to give it up, it was interferring with her social life. HENRY CRING is now president of a
trucking association, for which BOB NEWSOM drives a truck. BETTY TAIT is having a time deciding whether
or not money interfers with love.

Big Walnut High School Yearbook. 1955: The Flame (p. 57)
Description
[corresponds to unnumbered page 57 of Big Walnut High School Yearbook. 1955: The Flame]
She has always had a crush on Bob but Henry could give her so much more and we girls all know just how
she feels.
In the circus profession which appears annually, we find SHIRLEY MULLINS, a daring tight-rope walker.
The clown is known as Bouncin' BOBBIE WHISMAN, while the man who goes into a cage full of lions to
aggravate them is MERVIN "Tiger" ROSS. RANDALL GRIFFITH, owner of the circus says he has a little
trouble handling his actors only on occasion.
Leaving the circus profession we come to the airfield where DARLENE STAMBACH, stunt woman, shows
us why they call her "Daring" Darlene. Speaking of stunts, RICHARD DAY has been sitting atop of a flag
pole for 12 weeks now and we think it's about time he came down, don't you?
JOAN BAILEY is the star pole vaulter in the Olympics this year. I guess age doesn't matter. Add 20
years to her present age and see what I mean. GWENDOLYN WALKER is the high jumper of the age.
They are having some high old times.
JOAN SEARLES and PATTY BAUGHMAN have become well known dog trainers. They, at the present
have perfected their hounds to sit on their tails and whistle our National Anthem at the same time.
ALICE JANE OLDHAM is working as a meatpacker, specializing in packing old hams. SUZANNE Mc
CARLEY is chairman of the society for the prevention of cruelty of lily-throated golden warblers. SUZANNE
LINK is now the guide in the tunnel of love and seems to be doing very well for herself.
Three of our classmates, GEORGE HAYCOOK, local store detective, PHIL "Casey" CRING free lance photo- grapher, and EUGENE SPARKS, local jail-keeper are in the crime racket together. George catches the crooks,
Phil takes their pictures and Eugene offers them room and board for awhile.
MARY KAY ATWOOD is now manager for ROANNA EVANS, swing pianist, in Hollywood. She has just
completed her movie, "Termites of Tomorrow" co-starring with IVA RUTH WILSON, "West Coast Terror.
JIM BROOKENS is a professional photographer of models in Africa while SHIRLEY STEWART is busy modeling
for the Union in Columbus.
BILL LIMING and ROSE ELLA McELROY are at the present operating Alcatraz. The only entertainment the
prisoner's enjoy is Bill's singing. Singing???
Dr. DONNA POTTS and her protege, Dr. RUTH SAUNDERS, are still trying to perfect a potion to correct
MIKE HARROUN'S habit of chasing BETTY DUSTIN all over town.
MARJORIE ROSS has just been promoted as personal hair stylist to the president's wife. MARJORIE MERRITT
is also in Washington as a U. S. Senator with the strong policy to have schools demolished. JANET METZGER
is teaching Alaskan teenagers to do the mambo and CAROL MYERS is the head of one of the largest perfume
companies in the world, "The Smell'em Good Company."
Well, it seems we ran out of Seniors that once attended Big Walnut High School. We pay tribute to these
fine young men and women in hopes they will forgive us for the crazy things we said about them. All in fun
of course. We truly wish them luck, prosperity, and happiness.

fine young men and women in hopes they will forgive us for the crazy things we said about them. All in fun
of course. We truly wish them luck, prosperity, and happiness.

THE STORY OF EDUCATION
One night three horsemen were riding across the desert.
A voice called out of the darkness - Halt'. Dismount
and do as I command and tomorrow you will be both
glad and sorry. The voice then commanded that they
pick up pebbles and put them into their pockets and ride
away. The following morning they found the pebbles
had turned to precious jewels. They were both glad and
sorry - glad they had taken some; sorry they did not more.
