Plant, Chicago the 15th to visit Ohio relatives of his mother, we started early toward Chicago. with Chas Wheaton at the wheel for a hundred miles or so. After lunch, somewhere close to, or in Indiana, Chas. Daily became chaffeur and surely did delight in "stepping on her",-to my discomfort and dismay and, -well, all but anger. Especially as we neared Chicago, because there were so many, close together, sharp turns in Northern Indiana roads. Reached South Chicago for early lunch and there Chas. Daily left us. Camp sites around S. Chi. did not suit us, so we just kept on driving, as the sun was still shining until came to Joliet (Ill) city camp, where decided had enough motoring for one day 339 mi- a big record run, because had two drivers. Visited the campus of the University of Wisconsin and drove up and down its streets and around its fine buildings. Left by a road that gave glimses of Lake North of city. The Lake we camped beside is South of city. The country we travelled thru enroute to Kilbourne City was similar to our home section of Ohio, except as we neared Devils Lake, which is quite hilly -even more so than about Granville, O. A motorist we met on the way said if we wished to see a minature Swiss scene to visit Devils Lake, which we did- on a detour that took us to south end of Lake first, which isn't quite so attractive as the North and which is just off Baraboo road. Title A name given to the resource Last Photo of Hatchards and Wheatons Together Description An account of the resource The last photograph of the Hatchards and Wheatons together as friend Tom dropped dead in their Winnipeg Apt Sept. 26-1925 This photo taken Aug 26-'25. in front of Mrs. Porters sons home, Highland Park, Ill. Mrs Porter was ill, beside the marked window. Hatchards met us at Kilbourn City, Wis. Aug. 20-1925. We visited in K.Cy and motored about. We especially enjoyed the wonderful Indian Pow-wow-up the famous "Delles" region, where Indian peace conferences were held centuries and centuries ago. Seven tribes from as many states, participated, We thoroughly enjoyed visiting their camps close by the city and "climbing the red spires. It was a great show-lasting several weeks each summer. Worth going miles to see. Friend Thomas expressed doubt, several times, when we spoke of getting together again. His "hunch" was correct because both men were gone within six months. We women are still "carrying on", in Calif this time-May 6, 1930.
