Description

Front of card: Abraham Lincoln Springfield, Ill. home

This house was the home

of Abraham Lincoln for a

good many years. Three

sons were born to Mr and Mrs

Lincoln here, one of whom died

in childhood. The lady who

opened the door for us is

a niece of Mrs Lincoln. Her

mother was a sister of the

latter. Many articles of furniture

and bric-a-brac belonged to the

Lincolns, this quite a lot of

the furnishings belonged to Mrs

Lincolns side of the family and of

course to the lady who lives

there. I especially remember the

big old fashioned mahogany, hair

cloth corned settee where Abraham

courted Mrs Lincoln.

To me this seemed a

hallowed spot - where this great

common man and his beautiful

cultured, vivacious wife spent

probably their best years -
